Government calls for caution as Lassa fever claims one life in Enugu

There is a new outbreak of Lassa fever in southern Nigeria which has claimed at least one life in Enugu state

The government of Enugu has announced the emergence of a fresh Lassa fever outbreak in Enugu State.

Confirming the development,the State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Fintan Ekochin, called the attention of the residents of the state to the outbreak and enjoined citizens to be on the lookout for symptoms while also taking precautions.

“There is no need for panic as people in contact with the deceased before his death, have been placed on drugs known to prevent the spread of the virus if started early,” he said.
