Nigeria’s Society of Family Physicians launches digital platform

The platform allows Nigerians to access doctors with just a click

In an effort aimed at leveraging the limitless potentials of technology to provide quality healthcare to patients in Nigeria, the Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria (SOFPON) has unveiled Kompletecare. The launch was one of the highlights of the organization’s World Family Doctor Day celebration 2018 which was recently held in Abuja with the theme: Family Doctors – Leading the way to better health.

The digital service which is accessible via an android mobile app on Google Play Store and via a web app enables users to access health professionals at a click.

According to the society, the platform reduces the time a patient spends while waiting to see a medical doctor and allows doctors to earn from their services. It also serves as an electronic health records system allowing doctors to securely send medical history to other doctors outside their health facility.

Dr. Gbenga Ogunfowokan, SOFPON Chairman for FCT/Keffi region said family physicians don’t just treat their patients once and move on but stay with them almost through their lives.

“Family physicians provide coordinated care with other professionals. They also provide a continuing care from birth to death,” he said.

Setting the tone for the launch with his presentation titled “Information Technology in Healthcare”, Dr. Haruna Abubakar emphasized the various benefits of adopting technology for effective patient focused healthcare delivery.

While making strong case for technology adoption by his colleagues working in various hospitals across the country, he spoke on Electronic Health Records (HER) system and how it can transform healthcare experience for patients and their caregiver.

He highlighted some of the challenges faced in the implementation of tech solutions in healthcare. They include power, financing, bureaucracy, logistics, data compromise and interests. These, according to him, could militate against effective implementation of technology in healthcare.
