Kwara state has immunised 90% of children against yellow fever

Following success of yellow fever vaccination exercise, Kwara announces date for measles immunization

Kwara gives an assessment of 10-day yellow fever immunization exercise

At the end of the recently held yellow fever vaccination program in Kwara state, the government said the exercise reached 90 percent of the targeted population.

The 10-day vaccination exercise was carried out in all the 16 local government areas in Kwara state.

According to Dr Abimbola Folorunsho, Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, the impressive turnout of children within the age of nine months to five years for the immunisation was satisfactory.

She noted that due to the peculiar nature of the vaccine, the exercise could not conducted on house-to-house basis.

“The vaccine is not meant to be taken from house-to-house because they are injectables, but people expected us to bring it to their doorsteps to be vaccinated,” she said.

Instead, the exercise was taken to religious houses while clerics also helped in the enlightenment of members of their congregation on the programme. She said the exercise went hitch-free and was successful due to the high level of enlightenment on the programme in the state.

She also announced that immunisation against measles among the children will start in the state on March 3. She appealed to mothers to ensure that their kids are vaccinated.
