A total of 14 health facilities have been shut down by the Lagos state government. The facilities, the government said, failed to comply with regulatory standards in the state.

The facilities were locked up by the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) and its Executive Secretary, Dr Abiola Idowu, expressed the commitment of the state government to putting a halt to the ugly trend of having unqualified personnel work in health facilities.

Channels TV reported that the government pledged to continue to insist that the environment for the dispensation of medical care was suitable for the promotion and maintenance of good health.

Idowu described health security as an integral part of public security, which was the primary duty of the government, adding that the government will compel all health facilities in the state to conform to best practices and urged operators to abide strictly by the standards of HEFAMAA to avoid sanctions.

Residents of the state have also been enjoined to cooperate with, and support the government in the fight against quackery and illegal operation of facilities by reporting those behind such acts to relevant agencies.
