Guest writer James Martin shares what you need to know about cannabis
Cannabis or marijuana or simply weed is at the peak of its trendiness. It does not have side effects that are as dangerous as those of other drugs and the user gets a good enough high out of it as well.
Recently, to promote the use cannabis, there has been a lot of research showing exactly how quality cannabis is actually good for us. So here are some pros of cannabis:
Prevention of Alzheimer’s and Dementia:
Use of cannabis has been linked to a decrease in chances of contracting Alzheimer’s and Dementia in old age. Cannabis is now being looked at as a potential treatment option for people who have these degenerative diseases.
People who commonly use marijuana in their daily lives are said to be very creative. Many artists, singers, and writers are known for smoking marijuana before starting their work as they say it helps them think more creatively.
Stress and Anxiety Relief:
Marijuana makes us happy. We are all very well aware of that. This is why it is not exactly surprising that marijuana is good for stress and anxiety relief as well.
Better Heart Function:
Marijuana is known for dilating our blood vessels so that more blood can flow through them. It is also great for regulating our blood pressure and keeping it optimal.
Better Blood Sugar:
People who use cannabis are also less prone to obesity as their metabolic functions are optimal. They also have lower levels of insulin as a consequence of having optimal blood sugar.
Lastly, cannabis is now being prescribed as medical marijuana for pain relief. It is commonly given to people after surgery, or if they have faced severe physical trauma.
We have now talked about some great benefits that cannabis can impart to us. But like any other drug, it has its fair share of cons that we must be wary of. Here are just some of the cons of cannabis:
Impairs Learning Processes:
Cannabis is particularly harmful to students and other people who are in the learning stage in their lives. It makes you stop thinking in a rational, smart way and stops you from concentrating on the matter in front of you.
Increases the Base Heart Rate of the User:
Too much usage of marijuana can also increase your heart rate above its normal values, which can lead many problems and medical emergencies.
May Instigate Respiratory Illness:
This is most pertinent to people who choose to smoke marijuana. People who smoke marijuana can be seen developing a chronic cough. They also wheeze and have some trouble breathing. Other than that, marijuana smokers can also contract diseases like bronchitis and they produce more sputum in their cough than normal people.
Makes the User Apathetic:
When high, marijuana smokers are unaware of the happenings in their surroundings. In times when they need to be alert like during confrontations or danger, this can prove to be quite a drawback. The apathy stays as long as the marijuana is in the system.
